A 5 inch gauge Stanier 2-6-4T - more usually seen in 3 1/2 inch gauge to Martin Evans' "Jubilee" design, it's a mighty great thing in the larger scale, a serious two man lift. The engine came down from Scotland recently as part of a collection we bought from the late owner's son. This engine was last used several years ago when it went over to a rally in Holland - for the last few years it's been on display in the owner's house, completely filling a windowledge halfway up the stairs. How we got it down is a story in itself...
Silver soldered copper boiler, 90psi working pressure, feed by twin injectors. Three element superheater. Cast iron cylinders with slide valves actuated by Walschaerts gear, pole reverser in the cab.
The boiler has had a twice working pressure hydraulic test - structurally sound, although there is a leak on one superheater flue, about a quarter inch from the smokebox tubeplate; it requires either repair or blanking off. The engine is missing its grate and ashpan but otherwise complete, its runs particularly well on air with good crisp exhaust beats - there's some video of it running in the workshop here.
Length 51 inches
